Science Department

Faculty: Nicole Cioffi, Michael Dunleavy, Taylor Hartey, Marc Koenig, Alex Koval, Brittany Langlitz, Heather Robinson, Michael Simmons, Mark Trotta

The department philosophy is to present science to each student every day. The level of science presented, and the subject areas to be investigated, will depend upon the student’s ability and needs in terms of his or her post-high school career and educational plans.

Science knowledge is continually expanding. The teachers in the science department are committed to the process of lifelong learning to keep abreast of scientific advances in their field(s) of expertise. With new scientific knowledge, also comes the introduction of new methodologies and technologies with which to present science material. The science department is committed to using the educational approach that best meets the needs of each student and satisfies both State requirements and district priorities.

Department Laboratory Policy

To take a science Regents examination, a student must complete a state mandated number of laboratory exercises (30 lab hours) and complete an acceptable written  report for each exercise. Failure to meet the New YorkState (NYS) requirement eliminates a student from sitting for the Regents exam. The department deadline for turning in completed laboratory reports is June 1.
