Course Description: 

Coordinated through SUNY Albany, this senior level science course covers the same material as the Forensics course at Syracuse University. This is designed as a third year science course. Upon successful completion of the course (CHE 113) the student will receive 4 college credits. Forensics is the study of science in application to criminal and civil laws. Students will learn the techniques used to identify and convict criminals. Famous criminal cases of historical significance will be studied. Topics include: crime scenes, fingerprints, DNA, serology, the study of hair and fibers, ballistics, anthropology, toxicology, forensic psychology, death, and decomposition. Laboratory exercises used in this class are designed to clarify the concepts covered. The course has both a midterm and a final examination. Students are also expected to complete comprehensive laboratory reports and lab practicals. The coordinating professor at Syracuse University produces the major examinations in the course. Prerequisite: Students must have completed three high school science courses, including chemistry and earned a passing grade in Regents Chemistry. This course is on a two year cycle.
