Non-Resident Tuition Students

Starting in the 2024-25 school year, students in the neighboring Montague School District and Eldred Central School District will be allowed to pay tuition and enroll in the Port Jervis City School District.  Since it will be the first year of this new project, Port Jervis is going to limit the number of non-resident tuition paying students to no more than 10.

Why accept non-resident students?

Like many school districts in the Northeast, Port Jervis has seen a decline in its student population over the years.  Therefore, we have available space to accept more students. If this program goes well, we will consider expanding the number of students and possibly including more school districts.  This will also be a new source of revenue for our school district.

Why come to Port Jervis?

Port Jervis is currently undergoing more than $80 million in renovations and improvements to our facilities. These projects include:  a completely renovated elementary school on East Main Street, a renovated high school auditorium, a new high school library, new synthetic turf at Chase and Glennette Fields, all new baseball, softball and soccer fields at the high school and middle school, as well as five new tennis courts at the high school. On the academic side, new initiatives include: more than 30 college classes available for free to high school students, six honors classes available to middle school students, and a new STEM program called Project Lead the Way being added in grades K-12.

Why only Montague and Eldred students?

Parents from both districts have inquired about paying tuition to have their children enroll in Port Jervis and there is no system currently in place to accept them.  Both districts are very small, which creates limitations in academic and extra-curricular offerings.

What will be the cost to families?

2024-25 Tuition Rates General Education Special Education
Grades K-6 $5,500 $31,000
Grades 7-12 $6,400 $33, 000

The tuition can be paid in four installments due on August 1, November 1, January 1 and April 1. Please note that transportation is not included.

How do you apply?
