Closing of Schools

May 1, 2020

Dear Port Jervis Learning Community,

Please be advised that in today’s press conference, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic school year. A final decision on summer programming has not been released.

We are well aware of the impact this decision has on our students, their families, and our faculty and staff, as well as the emotions that are likely being felt across our school district. Please be assured, our current plans in the realms of instruction, support, services, including food services will continue for the duration of this closing. We will continue to provide the very best for our students.

As a result of this confirmation of the closing, we will continue to finalize alternative plans for several of the events that were on the upcoming calendar. While there is no manner of replicating many of these events with the same impact and effect as the traditional formats, i.e. High School Graduation, we will continue to strive to provide the best possible experiences for our students and their families.

We have multiple plans in place for models of summer programming that can be implemented. Each model is contingent on the guidance and direction that will ultimately come from the Governor’s Office. We will continue to provide regular updates to our learning community as more information becomes available. Be well.

Mike Rydell
