Starting with the transformation of the West, the rise of European imperialism and at the same time, the decline of established civilizations in China, India, Latin America and Africa, the course then follows the turbulent twentieth century with the two World Wars, the Cold War, decolonization and nation-building. It concludes with a study of globalization, the war against terror and other challenges for our world in the first decades of the twenty-first century.
Combining the regional and thematic approaches, this course provides an overview of the culture and history of principal regions and countries while highlighting global trends and patterns of interactions that have tied our world together.
