360 - Anatomy & Physiology

Grades: 12
Duration: 1 Year
Credits: 1
Prerequisites: Students must have completed three years of science and passed at least two Regents examinations.

This is a senior level course. Even though college credit is not available, it is taught at the level of a freshman college course. The course is vocabulary intensive. This is a good foundation course for students who want to major in biology, physical education, nursing, medical technology, exercise physiology, physical therapy, or a related field. Anatomy is the study of how the body is constructed. Physiology is the study of how the body functions. How these areas interact will be demonstrated by studying various body systems to include the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. Other systems that may be covered are the endocrine, urinary, digestive, integumentary, immune, and reproductive systems. Specific diseases will be discussed with each system. Some laboratory exercises are incorporated into the class, including a fetal pig dissection. The final test in the course is a lab practical on the fetal pig dissections.
