Dear Port Jervis Community:
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our students, Sophia Palazzo. According to her family, it was due to complications related to the flu. Sophia was ten years old and a student at Orange-Ulster BOCES. She previously attended Anna S. Kuhl (ASK) Elementary.
Our condolences go out to all of Sophia’s family, friends and classmates. Counselors were available today at BOCES for any staff and/or classmates in need. Counselors were also available in the Port Jervis schools today to assist students and staff who knew Sophia and needed someone to talk to.
If your child is struggling with this situation, I encourage you to call your child’s school and speak to the counselor or social worker. They can assist your child and give you some helpful tips that you can use at home. Everyone deals with grief differently so please reach out if we can be of any help to you and your child during this difficult time.
