Mask mandate in schools

Mask mandate in schools

Dear Port Jervis Learning Community,

I hope everyone enjoyed the break!

Please note, Governor Hochul held a COVID-19 briefing this afternoon and has issued the long awaited announcement regarding the mask mandate in schools.  Effective Wednesday, March 2, 2022, masks will be optional for all students and school personnel inside our school buildings and on school transportation.

Port Jervis City School District will continue to have masks available for students, school personnel, and visitors. However, the decision whether to wear or not to wear a mask will be that of each individual. The individual decision to wear or not wear a mask will be respected and honored by all in our learning community.

While I am looking forward to our students returning to school tomorrow morning, I am sincerely looking forward to seeing our students' smiling faces as they enter our school building Wednesday morning!

Thank you for the continued support and patience!

Mike Rydell

Superintendent of Schools
