Dear Port Jervis Alumni,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. The New York State Education Department released guidance, earlier this year, regarding the modification of substitute requirements for individuals covering teacher assignments when they are out. Specifically stating:
“During the 2020-2021 school year, due to the COVID-19 crisis, substitute teachers who do not hold a valid teaching certificate and are not working towards certification, but hold a high school diploma or its equivalent may be employed by the school district.”
The aforementioned information coupled with the shortages of substitute teachers throughout the District has created the opportunity for recent graduates to work as substitutes within our buildings.
