Virtual Open House Letter to Parents

Dear Port Jervis Learning Community, 

One of the cornerstone events that assists us in launching a school year and maintaining the home to school connection is each school building’s Open House.  Rather than proceed with the typical format for our Open Houses, Port Jervis City School District is implementing a Virtual  Open House Model.  

The Virtual Open House Model will include the following: 

• Each teacher will post a recorded video on their Google Classroom(s) 
• The recorded videos will be accessible by parents and students on the evening of September 21, 2020.  
• The teachers will keep the link to the videos on their Google Classroom to allow flexibility for when one views the recording.
• Parents will be able to submit general classroom and course-specific questions directly to each teacher via a Google Form that each teacher will post to their Google Classroom.  The Google Forms will be posted no later than the end of the day on Thursday, September 10.  
• The teachers will include some of the questions in their recorded presentation.  

While we would prefer to host the Open Houses in typical, in-person format, we believe that this format provides an excellent opportunity to provide the essential information and answer any general questions that might exist for a particular teacher or course, while also ensuring the safety of all involved.
