On Friday, Nov. 19th, the high school Youth in Government Club participated in the county-wide "steering committee" which is basically a mock election for numerous local and state offices. Students have the chance to learn how to campaign, debate and caucus in order to get elected to positions they wish to run for. Port Jervis Senior Braeden Ross ran for the office of State Senator against 6 other students from various Orange County schools. He had to research the office and its purpose, produce a campaign video, organize a campaign committee of his peers, write and deliver a speech, and debate questions from the voters (other Youth in Government members) in a live Meet. He was victorious and was elected to serve in this mock position. Congratulations to Braeden and his entire campaign team!
