Colonel (Ret.) Douglas Lovelace, Class of 1966

Doug entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and served as a decorated Cobra gunship pilot in Vietnam, flying hundreds of combat missions. He later rose to commander of the 82nd Airborne Division’s Apache attack helicopter battalion. He attended the National War College then was assigned to the Pentagon as a strategist. He later served as Director of Military Requirements and Capabilities Management at the U.S. Army War College. He retired from active duty to become a professor then director of the U.S. Army’s Strategic Studies Institute. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Embry Riddle University and a Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law. He is now an attorney in Carlisle, PA where he lives with his wife, Mary (PJHS class of ’67).
