VEX Robotics

The VEX V5 Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, is the largest and fastest-growing middle school and high school robotics program globally with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide.” - REC

Teams design, code, build, and then compete with robots on a 12’x12’ field in a different game each year that is played in a 2 vs 2 format.

Game information can be found here.

The VEX Via app will allow you to see match schedules, rules, and scores from competitions. It is suggested that you and your student have it ahead of time. It can be found in the App Store or Google Play Store. More information can be found here.

The V5RC Hub app is useful for team members to be able to score matches and review the game manual.

Team Numbers

Each team has a specific number, followed by a letter; this is how teams are identified more easily at events. The Port Jervis teams have the number 32563, which will become useful for keeping track of your student's progress.

  • 32563D - PJMS Team: This team is comprised of 8th graders and will be competing at scrimmages and events.
  • 32563E - PJMS Team: This team is comprised of 7th graders and will be competing at scrimmages and events.
  • 32563F - PJMS Practice team: This team is comprised of 6th graders and is our practice team, they will be building a robot but not competing in scrimmages and events.

Team Shirts

Students who competed last year and stayed on the same team will wear the same shirts. New students and students who changed teams will make shirts before our first competition.

Food at Competitions

Students should bring food for breakfast in the morning, as it is a long active day and they must have something to eat to stay focused. When we attend competitions they stop matches for lunch, at which time students can eat. Most competitions take preorders for pizza. We will coordinate and collect money the week before the competition. Students are also free to pack a bag lunch if that better suits them. Most events also have concession stands for students to purchase snacks if they would like.

Meeting Information

32563D & 32563E & 32563F: Meet regularly in room 175 on Mondays and Wednesdays, The week before a competition or scrimmage, we will meet every day and stay later, which will be announced on Google Classroom on the Monday of that week. 32563D and 32563E will be our competition teams, And 32563F will be our practice team.

**We are currently done for the season until the new game gets released in May. We will then start to meet one day per week to start designing for next years game.**
