The fifth of five scheduled PJMS Library Series with ADAC and Mrs. Hulse was held on 6/8 and 6/9 with Mrs. Roach. We had four 6th-grade classes over the two days and saw about 90 kids.
ADAC and Mrs. Hulse focused on the positives and what students can do to be "naturally high." They have a five-part program they are implementing. This is the website for your reference.
For part #5, the focus was on self-management/know yourself, and the puzzle piece was protection. Your values, identity, and support system help you stay strong and make healthy choices. When you focus on the person you want to become, it helps you make better choices today. Your values and goals can guide you through stress and pressure. Life is a puzzle, and each choice is a piece that helps you build a life of purpose, passion, and pride — drug-free. The students watched a short video and asked a few questions that opened up valuable conversations.
This part ended with the fun activity of the students starting their own personal journal. Each student was provided with their own mini-journal and a journal pen. They were also given a prompt sheet to start the first entry in their journal. Once they had chosen a topic and a question, they wrote their answer in their journal. It was read silently and approved by Mrs. Roach or Mrs. Hulse, and then they were allowed to go to the decorating station tables. ADAC and Mrs. Hulse explained to them how journaling can be great for setting and tracking goals as well as a great tool for mental health.
