PJHS: YIG County Service Day

Selected students from the Port Jervis High School Youth in Government Club, along with advisors Lisa Perkowski and Christine Piscitelli, attended the Amy Bull Crist Youth-in-Government County Service Day Program on Friday, April 10th.  Our students shadowed actual officeholders in the Orange County court system and emergency services division for the morning, with three of our students serving with County Legislator Tom Faggione (pictured), where they debated a bill regarding handguns in the home. At the end of the day, the students enjoyed a celebration luncheon at the Barn at Villa Venezia where they were able to speak to members of local government such as the Honorable Judge Craig Brown (pictured) who is currently an acting Supreme Court Justice as well as serving as an Orange County Court judge and Damian Brady, Esq. who is the administrator of the Office of Assigned Counsel. Youth in Government is a high school program that brings students from all over the county together to increase understanding of, and participation in, county and state government and is run by Orange Ulster BOCES.
