PJHS: DECA Regional Competition

Five Port Jervis High School students have qualified to compete at the DECA State Career Conference (SCC) in Rochester this March after strong performances at the Regional Competition this week. DECA is an international program that prepares students for careers in business, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship by connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences. Through local chapters like the one at Port Jervis High School, students advance from regional competitions to the state and international levels. Top performers at the State Competition are given the opportunity to qualify for DECA’s International Career Development Conference, where they compete with peers from around the world and connect with industry professionals.

The students qualified for the state competition by excelling in their chosen event, where they showcased strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and professionalism across a range of business-related challenges.

The medal-winning students and their events are:

  • Aliya Beebe – Business Finance Series
  • Naomi Byrd – Hotel and Lodging Management
  • Trevor Lauture – Principles of Entrepreneurship
  • Jackson Sheehan – Restaurant and Food Service Management
  • Kamaria Williams – Principles of Marketing

At the New York DECA State Career Conference, students will take part in realistic business simulations that challenge their problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. These events simulate workplace environments and test students’ critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills in fast-paced, high-stakes situations. We congratulate them and wish them well at the next level!
