The Port Jervis Art Department recently entered student submissions to the 36th Annual Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County's Substance Abuse Prevention Poster Design Contest. This year's theme for grades 7-12, was, "Let's make the OC a drug-free county!". The high school is pleased to announce that we had multiple grand prize winners! 12th grader Ari Espada and 10th grader Karys Acoveno both won for their submitted designs.
Ari was the grand prize winner for the grade 7-12 Spanish digital poster submission and Karys is the grand prize winner for the grade 7-12 Spanish hand-drawn poster submission.
The ADAC Prevention Coordinator, MaryAlice Kovatch, Program Assistant, Denise Hulse, and Orange County STOP DWI & Traffic Safety Program Educator Lauren Savino, joined by PJHS art teacher Mrs. Horst and principal Mr. Lazzaro, surprised the girls at school. Both Ari and Karys will be honored at the ADAC awards ceremony on May 12th! In addition to our winners, the high school also would like to congratulate the following students who participated: Freshman Michael Manning, 1st place, grades 7-9, Junior Katrina Kranik, 2nd place, grades 10-12, Freshman Damien Benson, 3rd place, grades 7-9.
