New York State Showcase 2021

This weekend a handful of  Runnin’ Raiders took part in the New York Showcase meet which hosted 100 teams from states all along the East coast. Those that attended witnessed elite performances and cheered athletes on as they broke national records. Some of our Raiders were part of that elite group. Our medalists were:

  • Senior Marcus Best - competed in the 100 and 200.  He placed 4th in the men’s open 200. He missed the 100 finals by .04 seconds. Marcus’ 100 & 200 times are the third fastest in Port history.
  • Senior Richie Crews - competed in the 100 and 200. He placed 6th in the men’s open 200. Richie’s 100 & 200 times are the fifth fastest in Port history.
  • Senior Tommy Startup - was ranked 6th entering the meet, but beat three higher ranked competitors to finish 3rd. Tommy is ranked third in Port history.
  • Freshman Tyrie Caridad - ran a personal best time and placed 5th in the Fresh/Soph 400m. He is the fastest freshmen in Sec 9 and currently ranked 10th in the state among freshmen.
  • Senior Roland Zanger - placed 1st in pentathlon. His performance at the meet makes him number two on the Port all time list and he is currently ranked #4 in the entire United States.

It was a great way to cap off a season and we congratulate our athletes!
