On March 16, 2023, 8th grader Markus Ferrara and 7th grader Auron Pagano represented Port Jervis Middle School at the OU BOCES Regional Spelling Bee held at the Emanuel Axelrod Center in Goshen. They competed against 16 other students from 8 school districts around the county.
Markus was named the champion by correctly spelling "ivermectin" in the tenth round. He will go on to represent Orange County when he competes in May at the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington D.C.
