Students in Mrs. Wieboldt’s STEM and Sustainability class got to experience the process of metamorphosis with Monarch butterflies. Mrs. Wieboldt gathered the larva and milkweed from her fields and then brought them into school to let the students watch the magic happen. After the butterflies hatched students learned how to determine if the butterflies were males or females. We hatched 3 females and 1 male Monarch. Before releasing the butterflies, each butterfly was tagged to track their journey. We are really hoping that the butterflies will make it to Mexico!
