Mask Mandate Update II

Mask Mandate Update II

Port Jervis Learning Community,

First and foremost, thank you for the patience and support as we continue to navigate the developments regarding the mask requirements in schools.  We were awaiting a ruling by the Appellate Division regarding the appeal that was made by the Governor’s Office and NYS Department of Health.  We received this decision this afternoon, as well as the following message from NYS Education Department Commissioner Rosa:

STATEMENT FROM COMMISSIONER BETTY A. ROSA ON

GRANTING OF STAY IN MASK CASE

We are pleased the Appellate Division granted the application by the Department of Health and the Governor’s office, confirming the lower court’s decision is stayed pending further proceedings. As such, the mask mandate remains in effect for schools across the state. We support Governor Hochul and the state Department of Health as they continue with the appeal. We thank the members of our school communities for their patience during this process.

The above stay was issued pending a Hearing that is scheduled to take place on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

Therefore, the current mask protocols remain in place pending the outcome of Friday’s Hearing.

Again, thank you for the continued patience and support.

Mike Rydell
