At the September 20, 2022 Board Meeting, Emily Mesnick, Principal of HBE, introduced Mitchel Conklin, a fifth-grade student at HBE to present his school initiative for the Honor Flight. Honor Flight is a free program that takes veterans on a round-trip flight to Washington DC to see the memorials. Each veteran receives thank you letters and a handmade blanket as a thank you for their service that they take with them on the flight. The Honor Flight was on pause for a while due to Covid, but now that it is back, Mitchel is hoping for more student participation. HBE students made thank you cards for the veterans to read on this next honor flight, which is scheduled for October 8, 2022.
