A Message From Your Principal
WELCOME to EAST MAIN!
The time has finally come to open the doors to our newly renovated, state-of-the-art elementary school. We are thrilled to welcome back all of our amazing students, teachers and staff for this historic school year!
Our number one priority this year will be to familiarize our students and staff with our new space and ensure a comfortable environment conducive to learning. The climate and culture at ASK has been extremely positive for many years now. This was due in large part to our PBIS program, ASK…Doing Things the Right Way! We will continue the same model of PBIS but under a new logo and motto: East Main Elementary…Port Pride Starts Here!
One of our goals every year is to improve student attendance. It is our hope that with the excitement of moving into a new building, students will be more motivated to come to school. Oh, and did I mention that the entire school has air conditioning!
Academically, we will continue many of our initiatives that were introduced in the last few years and we will look to improve upon their implementation. These initiatives include:
- Wilson Language Training - we will continue to utilize this program called Fundations, for grades K-3; and Just Words, for grades 4-5. This phonics-based resource will be utilized in both the regular classroom, as well as in small groups during AIS sessions.
- Reading Committee - our work will continue with this endeavor as we explore possibilities for a new resource to compliment and complete our Wilson reading program.
- Eureka Math2 - this is the updated version of our current math resource. Teachers will receive professional development on the new components and strategies throughout the year to turnkey into the classroom.
- Project Lead The Way - now that we will have a dedicated STREAM Lab, PLTW will be the main resource that students will participate in during their STREAM classes. There are three modules per grade so students will have the opportunity to complete one module per trimester.
- PowerSchool - this will be our new Student Information System, SIS, that will totally replace SchoolTool. Along with PowerSchool comes a data dashboard called Unified Insights. Unified Insights will house all of our student data, such as the various assessments we conduct throughout the year, to streamline a student profile to aid in our MTSS process.
Again, I am excited to welcome our students and staff back to school in our amazing new space!
