Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Port Jervis City School District!

Dear Port Jervis Learning Community,

I would like to welcome all to a new school year!  The 2019-2020 school year will prove to be an outstanding year for our learning community.  There are several exciting additions or changes that will have a positive impact on the education programs and / or operations of our District.

One such change is the introduction of the Community Eligibility Provision at HBE, ASK, and the Middle School.  Through this program all students in grades K-8 will be able to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. The high school students will not be a part of this change for the 2019-2020 school year.  Therefore, students in grades 9-12 will purchase meals at the same rate as the 2018-2019 school year, unless they are eligible for the “Free” or “Reduced” program. More information can be found using the following link : Port Jervis CSD Food Services

Additionally, we will continue to expand the intervention and enrichment programs for our students.  With an increase in the Zero Hour Physical Education programs at the elementary levels and the increase in after school programs in art, music, academic subjects, and STREAM, there is a program for every student!  We encourage all students to participate in extra-curricular, athletic, and enrichment programs.

In the realm of instructional technology, I am pleased to share an update on the roll out of chrome books throughout our schools.  We recently deployed devices throughout the district which has allowed us to attain the ratio of 1:1 at the Middle School, with the High School ASK and HBE nearing the 1:1 ratio.  Our plan includes all schools being at a 1:1 ratio by the start of the 2020-2021 school year.  This is an exciting time in education and our students deserve the tools and resources needed for the premier education we aim to provide.

I hope that all members of our learning community enjoyed the summer and are looking forward to all the opportunities a new school year can bring.

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Mike Rydell
