Right to request information about teacher qualifications

In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, you have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers.
Specifically, you have the right to request the following information concerning your child’s teachers:

• Whether the teacher has met the New York State qualifications and licensing criteria for grade levels and subject areas he or she teaches;
• Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status under which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived;
• The teacher’s college major and whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of those degrees; and
• If your child receives services from any instructional assistants or similar paraprofessionals, the qualifications of those individuals.
