Class valedictorian & salutatorian honored
at BOCES Outstanding Student Dinner

Port Jervis High School seniors Robert Schneider and Ryosuke
Tashiro were honored May 19 along with the top-ranked
seniors from school districts throughout the region at the
annual Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner at the Inn at
Central Valley.

Sponsored by Orange-Ulster BOCES, the recognition dinner is held
each year to honor the students who earned the distinction of
being named valedictorian and salutatorian of their graduating
class.
Class of 2010 valedictorian Robert Schneider achieved
this honor by maintaining an overall grade point average of
98.12. Robert earned this distinction while taking the most
rigorous courses Port Jervis High School has to offer, including
the BOCES Senior Enrichment Program.
Robert is actively involved at Port Jervis High School where he
serves as president of both the National Honor Society and SADD,
and vice president of the French Club. He is also a member of
the concert band, Peer Leaders, and assists with the annual
school musicals. Outside of school, Robert volunteers as a
religious education teacher aid.
Next year, Robert will attend Rensselarer Polytechnic Institute
where he plans to major in architecture. Robert is the son of
Robert and Danise Schneider.
Class Salutatorian Ryosuke Tashiro qualified for his
honor by maintaining an impressive grade point average of 96.02.
An aspiring engineer, Ryosuke excelled in the high school’s most
challenging courses and the BOCES New Visions Engineering
Program.
A talented pianist, Ryosuke has performed at the Milford
Walk-a-thon. Ryosuke also volunteers at New Hope Family Farms,
the Family Festival, and community street clean-ups. In the
summer, he serves as a counselor at the New Hope Special Needs
Camp.
This fall, Ryosuke plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute where he will major in engineering. Rysosuke is the
son of Yosuke and Martha Tashiro.
