The first annual Scholarship Awards Presentation was held June 8 at Port Jervis High School. The awards presentation was held to recognize the graduating seniors for their accomplishments and to bring the award recipients together with their generous scholarship donors.

American Association of Retired Persons (Port Jervis AARP Chapter 2380) - Barbara Force
Award money to go toward books to a student matriculating in college. $250

Abraham Siegel Scholarship for Computer Science - Jeremy Kondak
Awarded to a senior who will pursue further education in the field of computer science and who shows an interest in pursuing a career in a computer related field. $200

American Legion James C. Biltz Post 685 (Charles G. Croopin Memorial Scholarship) Barbara Force
Performed outstanding community service, shown excellence in Social Studies, demonstrated good citizenship and has been accepted at an accredited college or university. Recipient must be a relative of a former member of the armed forces. $400

American Legion Post #139 Scholarship (Marsh-Kellogg) - Jenny Horsham
Recipient must be a relative of a former member of the armed forces. Awarded to a member of the graduating class who plans to go onto higher education. Student must show good citizenship and community service. $1,000

Andrew C. Coxson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship- Denine Lasch
Awarded to a graduating senior who has overcome a personal, social or academic obstacle. $250

Anne & Patrick Farace Incentive Award - Richard Kappes
Awarded to eighth grade student as an incentive to fulfill their academic potential. They must preserve and demonstrate their determination to graduate with their class by meeting basic requirements for a high school diploma. Student must graduate from Port Jervis High School.   $250

Avalanche Ski Club Scholarship - Joshua Rutt
Awarded to a member of the graduating class. $1,000

Betty Jane Polanis College Incentive Award - Sierra Phillips
Recipient was chosen when they were in their 8th grade year at the Port Jervis Middle School. Student has been involved in community service and extracurricular activities. Student must be pursuing a degree in Education. $500

Betty Morgan Memorial Scholarship - Denine Lasch and Robert Schneider
Awarded to two seniors (1 boy, 1 girl) who have demonstrated good citizenship, have met an average to better then average GPA and intends to continue their education. Student must write an essay describing what was special about his/her years at HBE. $500

Bon Secours Community Hospital Scholarship - Jessica Rosas
This is non-merit based scholarship. Must demonstrate financial need, and plan to pursue post-high school education in the healthcare field. $400

Brandon Dawson Community Scholarship - Carly Savino
Awarded to a graduating senior who has been active in his/her community with preference, but not exclusive to those who reside in the Town of Mamakating or Deerpark Manor area in Westbrookville. This is non-merit based scholarship. $500 

Bruce Phillip Chase Memorial Scholarship - Christopher Stawski
Awarded to a graduating student of high moral character who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in both athletics and academics. Student must be accepted to an accredited college or university, rank in the top 20 percent of the graduating class, and set a good example through dedication and determination. Preference will be given to a student planning to continue athletic participation in college. $500

Awarded to graduating seniors who have been accepted at an accredited school for post high school studies.

Awarded to a graduating male or female senior who has demonstrated outstanding class involvement over their four-year high school career. Student exhibits leadership skills, class spirit and is capable of working with others. Accepted into a 2 or 4 year accredited college/trade school. $250

Catholic scholarship awarded to a graduating student based on scholastic achievement.  $250

Deleshiana Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund - Rebecca Guy
Awarded to a graduating senior who has been actively involved in music or art throughout their high school career. $200

Devon Fahey Memorial Scholarship - Megan Heckman
Awarded to a college-bound graduating female who has an 85 or better average and has been involved in sports. Must be a well-rounded in school, show perseverance, be involved in the community, and provide an essay about "The Value of Volunteerism." $500

Donald J. Clayton Memorial Scholarship - Vincent Totaro
Student planning to attend a four year college, preferably majoring in business. Academic standing of 3.0 or better.  $500

Douglas C. Miller Memorial Scholarship - Denine Lasch
Given by the Mill Rift Fire Department in Memory of Douglas C. Miller, FDNY, Rescue 5, and Mill Rift Chief,
to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, strong moral character, and community service. $1,500

Dr. Harrison F. Murray Scholarship - Danielle Reed
Awarded to a graduating senior who plans to matriculate in the field of health or medicine.  $500

Dr. Henry & Dorothea Solomon Youth Service Award  - Robert Schneider
Awarded to a member of the graduating class that has demonstrated outstanding, dedicated service to the student body and community. $200

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who will continue his/her studies in the field of science at an accredited college or university. Award is based on scholastic ability , good citizenship, community service.  $500

James P. Kelly Memorial Scholarship - Amanda Muller
Graduating senior who is well-rounded in school and in the community, and plans to continue his/her education at OCCC. Students must show an interest in school and community affairs.  $500

Jay Alan Short Memorial Scholarship - Brandon Trappe
Awarded to a candidate of excellent character, well rounded and highly motivated. Must have been accepted by and will attend the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY.  $500

John Brennan Memorial Award - Christopher Van Dunk
Member of the graduating class exemplifies the potential characteristics of courage concern for their fellow peers, school. and community. $1,000

John E. Bell Memorial Scholarship - Joseph Maillet
Awarded to a male athlete who earned a varsity letter winner in football. Student must have a minimum GPA of 85; perform community service in and outside of Port Jervis High School; exemplify school spirit with strong character; citizenship and effort; and exhibit leadership skills with integrity and accountability.  $500

Joseph H. Kucher Scholarship - Barbara Force
Member of graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the community, excelled academically and has been involved in extracurricular activities throughout high school career.  $1,000

Kass & Jules Dorritie Memorial Scholarship - Danielle Reed
Awarded to a graduating female who has maintained an 85 or better average and have been active in school activities. Student must exhibit leadership skills and school spirit. Must have performed community service outside the school as well as being an animal lover.   $500

Kathleen "Katie" Decker Memorial Scholarship - Vincent Totaro
Awarded to a graduating senior who attended the BOCES Cosmetology Program. Given to a student with a good personality who has demonstrated kindness and friendship towards others. $250

Kathy Laizure/Jayne Polanis Memorial Scholarship - Sarah McDonald
Awarded to a senior through the sole efforts of the Senior High School Varsity Club.  $300

Kiwanis International Port Jervis Club Scholarship - Lindsay Sauschuck
Awarded to a graduating senior from Port Jervis High School who was a member of the Key Club. Senior has positively contributed to their world through community service efforts. Student must be on good standing amongst their peers and community. Senior must be continuing their education in either a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university or trade/vocational school.  $500

Knights of Columbus #471 (Monsignor John F. Sexton Memorial Scholarship) - Robert Schneider
Graduating senior who resides in and attends one of the parishes designated by the Knights of Columbus and is a practicing Catholic and enrolled in a two or four year school as of the September following graduation. $500

Lessing L. Kole Scholarship - Danielle Reed
Granted to a member of the graduating class who has matriculated in an accredited college or junior college. Student must have scholastic ability, have participated in athletics or extra-curricular activities and have displayed good citizenship.  $1,000

Lieutenant John Krupunich, Jr. Memorial Scholarship - Ashley Husson
Awarded to a graduating senior who is looking to pursue a career in the criminal justice field. $250

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who is looking to further his/her education in either nursing or education. $500 for 4 years.

Marianna "Hollywood" Ronca Memorial ScholarshipMegan Heckman
Awarded to a graduating senior who will take part in June's ceremony. Must have an outgoing, bubbly personality and an essence when entering a room. Senior must hold family and friends in high regard.  Essay: "What do you believe to be your best quality & describe your family and friends and your relationship to them in your own loving words"  $500

Mark Ropke Memorial Scholarship - Timothy Crown
Awarded to a graduating senior who has played Varsity football. One who has struggled academically and persevered. Senior will continue his education in a 2 or 4 year college/university or trade school. Essay required. $500

Mark William Carroll Memorial Award - Joseph Maillet
Graduating senior of high moral character, who has demonstrated leadership, integrity, good fellowship, and dedication in community or scholastic service. Student should exemplify the potential characteristics of courage and concern for their fellow peers, school and community. Graduate may be accepted into an educational or vocational program or plans or preparing for a career in their community or a community related-field. $500

Awarded to a member of the graduating class pursuing a major in mathematics at the college level.

Awarded to four seniors who have demonstrated moral character and contributions to the community.

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who has shown evidence of good citizenship and need. $150

Awarded to a member of the graduating class who plans to pursue a career in the teaching profession, in recognition of outstanding effort, ability and citizenship.  $150

Student participated for one full year in the Port Jervis Little League Program and High School Athletic Program. $400

Awarded to a senior matriculated in an accredited college. Exemplary character. Appropriate attitude toward the probable success in vocation; shows scholastic ability, and preference to be given to students entering the field of teaching.  $1,500

Port Jervis Teachers' Association Scholarship - Sarah McDonald and Sierra Phillips
Awarded to seniors who have been accepted by a college and who have shown consistent effort during their high school careers.  $1,500

Port Jervis Teachers' Association Scholarship (Anne Elizabeth Hauber Memorial) - Luke Keniston
Awarded to a student who has shown academic achievement in the classroom and is the child of a teacher.  $1,500

Port Jervis Wrestler Alumni Scholarship - Zachary Dunn and John Moriarty
Awarded to a graduating member of the Port Jervis High School varsity wrestling program. Increments of $500.

Port Jervis Youth Scholarship - Sierra Phillips and Joseph Maillet
Awarded to one male and one female athlete who participated in Varsity Football/Cheerleading and demonstrated community service and active participation in extra-curricular activities. Students wrote an essay describing how the Port Jervis Youth Football League has had a positive impact on their life. Overall grade point average was taken into consideration. $500 each.

Awarded to a graduating female accepted in a program at either a junior college, four year college, trade school, technical school or other advanced learning institution. Must have satisfactory academic standing, demonstrate financial need, and be outstanding in character, courtesy, cooperation, good fellowship and civic responsibility.  $150

Awarded to a graduating senior who participated in JV and Varsity football at PJHS. Senior must attend an accredited four year college or university. An essay required describing how playing PJHS football affected your life and your high school career.  $1,500

Sally J. Lehn Memorial Scholarship - Sierra Phillips
College-bound graduating student who has excelled in the area of foreign language study. Student chosen by language department for demonstrating not only superior proficiency in the language, but also an obvious enthusiasm for the language and the culture.   $300

Sara Abramowitz, Stephanie Conklin & Kathleen Decker Memorial Scholarship - Sierra Phillips
Awarded to any graduating senior, based on an essay on “What Friendship Means to Me."  $500

Sister Mary Jeanne Ferrier Scholarship - Denine Lasch
Graduating senior who plans to attend a two or four year college to pursue a community service oriented career (i.e. teaching, nursing, medicine, etc.) Senior must have participated in some type of volunteer community service during their high school years. $1,000

Stephanie Conklin Memorial Scholarship - Brittany Shaffer
Awarded to a graduating female senior accepted into a 2 or 4 year college or vocational/trade school who demonstrates positive attitude, effort and improvement.  $200

Sussex Bank Athlete of the Year Scholarship - Alina Hegedus
Awarded to the highest grade point average of the selected "Athlete of the Year."   $500

Theo Cohen Memorial Scholarship - Sierra Phillips
Award to a member of the graduating class who has distinguished himself/herself in the performing arts. $500

Thomas Case Memorial - Christopher Stawski
Presented to the best athlete in the graduating class.   $200

Thomas F. Kenny Memorial Scholarship - Johanna Seidel
Awarded to a graduating senior going to college to study teaching.   $100

Tri-State Naval Ship VFW #7241 (Jacob M. Coleman Memorial Scholarship) - Rebecca Falcon
Awarded to a graduating senior whose parents or grandparents is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.  $500

Tri-State Youth Soccer Scholarship  -Alyson Wesley and Joseph Maillet
Awarded to a college-bound graduating senior who has participated in the Tri-State Area Youth Soccer Club.  $1,000

Tri-States Disabilities Awareness Council Scholarship  - Heather Yacavone
Awarded to a senior who has a physical or educational disability and planning to continue education (2 or 4 year college) trade school.  $400

Trooper Joseph T. Aversa Memorial Scholarship - Ashley Husson
Awarded to a member of the graduating class who plans to pursue a career in police science. Acceptance at an approved college and excellent character are prerequisites for this scholarship.  $1,000

Vincent C. Innella Memorial Scholarship - Julia Zenker
Awarded to the son/daughter of a volunteer fireman in any fire department in the school district who has matriculated in a post-secondary program and has shown evidence of good citizenship and civic responsibility.  $700

William A Gerbracht Annual Remembrance Talent Scholarship - Rebecca Falcon
Awarded to a senior who has been involved in supporting the Art Department through after school and open studio time.  Applicant must provide a portfolio and must be accepted to an accredited college or art institution.  $1,000

William A. Aumick Scholarship - Barbara Force
Awarded to a graduating senior who has shown academic worth while preparing to study in a major concentrating on public service.  Student must have shown the citizenship of "Lionism."  $500

William Goodfellow Memorial Scholarship - John Moriarty
Awarded by the Varsity Club male athlete, in the memory of William Goodfellow, based on the following qualifications: admittance to a post-secondary educational program, exemplary school conduct, athletic competence. Must display a positive attitude toward athletics, honesty, exemplary character, and the capability of working with others.  $300

William J. Schoonmaker Scholarship - Alfonso Garcia and Barbara Force
Awarded to two deserving students who are pursing a career in the areas of science or music who have been accepted at an accredited college.  $400 per year per student for four years.
