The Port Jervis City School District is proud to announce that John Bell, assistant superintendent for instruction, has been elected president-elect of the New York State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (NYSASCD). Bell takes office this fall. He will serve a two-year term as president-elect and then move to the presidency for the next two school years, 2011-2013.

An affiliate of the worldwide ASCD, the state association assists educators in the development and delivery of quality instructional programs and supervisory practices to maximize success for all learners. ASCD is a renowned leader in improving teaching and learning through workshops, conferences, and publications. Currently, the educational organization represents over 18,000 educators in New York State and more than 175,000 members worldwide.

Bell has served on the NY State ASCD executive board since 2006. As president, he will be responsible for helping to strengthen the state association’s policies and to develop programs and services dedicated to improving teaching and educational leadership.

“ASCD is the best educational organization in America. I am thrilled to become president-elect of its New York affiliate. This position will give me access to great ideas and programs that I can bring back to Port Jervis,” says Bell.
