Middle School holds mock presidential election
The Middle School held a
school election for the office of the President of the United
States on Nov. 3. Students were treated as if they were adults
voting in the real general election.
Social studies teachers
registered all 7th and 8th graders with a modified registration
form. Students who did not register were not able to vote. At
the poll station, each voter had to sign in and then get on line
to cast their ballot. Turnout was high with of 74 percent of the
student body voting.

Senator Obama won the
election with 191 votes, 59 percent of the students. Senator
McCain received 99 votes. The students in Trish Aumick's
8th grade social studies classes informed the student population
about the candidates by making campaign posters to hang in the
halls.
Congratulations to PJMS students for exercising your
right to vote! And special thanks to those who helped with the
election.
The election could not have happened, or run as
smoothly as it did, without the help of teachers Kyle Ross and
Melissa Mieszkuc, and parent volunteer Mary McCourt.
