Port Jervis Middle
School students are making news. A crew from Nickelodeon
recently interviewed 11 Port Jervis Middle School students about
teen dating for an upcoming segment of the kids network news
program – Nick News.
Aware of the amount of time most kids spend in watching
television, Nickelodeon has developed a news program for kids,
not about kids. The object of Nick News is simple. It helps
develop kids’ interest in real-world issues and gives kids the
information they need to make important decisions.

For most
teenagers, the future is pretty unclear and a little scary. They
aren’t sure where the world’s going or how they can affect it.
And yet, more than ever before, who they’ll be when they grow
up, depends on what they know now. Segments like the one on teen
dating relationships give kids information they need to make
important decisions. This information is presented through
storytelling, not preaching. The stories are told by real kids –
teenagers like the ones in Port Jervis – who are asked to share
their personal stories or give their perspective on topics
ranging from global warming to teen issues.
The teen dating segment featuring the Port Jervis Middle School
students aired June 7 on the
Nickelodeon channel.
