The Mid-Hudson School Study
Council recently honored Deerpark resident Michael Bello for his
distinguished service to the Port Jervis School District and
Orange-Ulster BOCES.
Bello, who is the president of the Port Jervis school board,
received the 2008 Award for Excellence in School Board Service
Oct. 2 at the Mid-Hudson School Study Council’s annual award
dinner in New Windsor.
A long-standing school board member, Bello has served for 16
years on the Port Jervis Board of Education and for the past two
years on the Orange-Ulster Cooperative Board. Additionally,
Bello has also represented his fellow board members by serving
as a delegate and secretary for the Orange County School Boards
Association.
“Through his service on the Port Jervis and Orange-Ulster BOCES
boards, it is evident that Mike dedicates himself to providing
the highest quality educational opportunities for students,”
said Port Jervis School District Superintendent John Xanthis.
"A visionary leader, Mike has never lost sight of what is best
for the young people of Port Jervis,” said Xanthis. “He has
always taken his responsibilities seriously – setting a high
standard for effective board service and encouraging everyone
around him to work together to address the diverse needs of our
district.”
