Ribbon-cutting highlights
parking safety initiatives
Students came together with school
district, City of Port Jervis, Town of Deerpark, Orange County, and police
officials to celebrate the
dedication of the recently-improved Port Jervis High School parking lot Sept. 24.
The ceremony also recognized the SADD
Club, and retired club advisor Patti McGinnis,
for their
efforts to improve campus safety by sponsoring the parking lot
improvement plan and donating the new Port Jervis High School
"Drive Safely" sign. Several people spoke at the
ceremony including Assistant High School Principal Andrew
Marotta, School Resource Officer Kelly Decker, and keynote
speaker Deputy Commissioner of Orange County Emergency Services
Craig Cherry.

In
an effort to provide a safer environment for teen drivers, the high school student
parking lot is now a one-way traffic area. Additionally, new road signs and
directional arrows were installed over the summer to designate
the new one-way entrance to the parking area. Access to the
parking lot is limited to students in grades 11 and 12 who have
completed the driver safety requirements.
