School District streamlines voter
registration
Thinking outside of the box, the Port Jervis
School City District is streamlining its voter registration to
make the process more cost efficient and convenient for tax
payers.
Instead of holding an annual voter registration day, the Board
of Education approved a proposal at its Jan. 23 meeting to offer
open registration.
In the past, the district paid two school board appointed
election workers to man the registration booth for seven hours
on the annual voter registration day. Since only a handful of
residents were able to take advantage of the designated day each
year, district officials are making it easier for community
members to register by providing the public with more ways to
obtain the voter registration form.
Residents now have several ways to register prior to this year’s
May 20 budget vote and school board elections. Registration
simply involves signing the New York State voter form that
indicates you are a U.S. citizen, age 18 or older, who will have
lived in the school district for 30 days prior to the May 20
vote.
Registration forms are available at:
• District Clerk’s Office
Administration Building
9 Thompson Street
Port Jervis, NY 12771
Weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Board of Education meetings, Budget Development meetings, and
all Community Budget
presentations.
• Port Jervis School District web site:

Completed forms should be
returned to the Orange County Board of Elections on the
address provided on the form, one week prior to the vote.
District residents do not need to register if they have voted in
either a school district election within the past year or a
local general election anytime in the past four years.
