2008 Read Across America, Feb. 25
- 29
ASK participates in the nation's largest reading celebration
ASK students
participated, along with 45 million children, in the
nation's largest reading celebration - Read Across
America. Sponsored by the National Education
Association, Read Across America is celebrated each year
in conjunction with the birthday of children's author
Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
At ASK Elementary School,
students enjoyed a week-long celebration of reading. Each day,
students were invited to wear something special and bring a book
to read.
Adding to the fun, art teachers
Denise Jackson and Barbara Holt made tall red and white "Cat in
the Hat" hats with the students. Music teachers Tricia Eckert
and Seth Riehl taught the students songs about reading such as
"One O' Clock - Read!" and "We Love to Read at ASK." And, much
to everyone's enjoyment, school librarian Linda Mole read a
selection of Dr. Seuss books.
The cafeteria even got involved
in the fun - serving "green eggs and ham" to the students Feb.
28. Thanks Mr. Preiskines and staff!
The week culminated on Friday
with a special guest appearance by The Cat in the Hat and
several local VIPs who took time from their schedules to come
read to the students.

Councilman-At-Large Dick Roberts, Port Jervis Police Chief Bill
