A generous donation by Altec
Lansing, a leading manufacturer of computer and home
entertainment sound systems, is helping Port Jervis teachers to
turn up the volume on digital instruction.
Altec Lansing, which is based in Milford, Pa., recently donated 100
high-quality computer speakers to the Port Jervis City School
District. The speakers were needed to enhance the audio
capabilities of the classroom computers purchased recently by
the district as part of its two-year plan to improve educational
technology.
“In order to provide our students with a technology rich learning
environment, we are in the process of replacing all the
classroom computers – many of which are outdated - with new
equipment,” said
John Bell, assistant superintendent for Instruction.
New computers generally come equipped with speakers suited for
personal use. “These speakers are not capable of projecting
sound to a classroom of inquisitive learners,” explains Bell,
who notes that teachers need high-quality speakers that allow
them to broadcast digital educational videos and other
multimedia tools.
“Thanks to the generosity of Altec Lansing, the new computers in
Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary School and Port Jervis Middle
School classrooms are now equipped with state-of-the art speaker
systems,” says Bell, who notes that by the beginning of next
year the rest of the classrooms in the district will receive new
computers.
He notes. “The donation from Altec Lansing puts Port Jervis School
District one step closer to its goal of using instructional
technology to improve student achievement district wide.”
