Happy
Birthday Dr. Seuss!
Annual Strega Nona dinner brings HBE families
together to celebrate reading
On Feb. 28, 250 students and their parents
enjoyed a family pizza night at Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary
School. The brainchild of the Building Education Planning Team,
which is composed of a team of parents, community members, and
the building administrator, the Strega Nona Dinner is the
highlight of the school's annual celebration of Read Across
America Week.
One of the school's most popular events, the
annual family dinner encourages parents and their children to
spend time reading together. In addition to enjoying pizza and
Dr. Seuss' birthday cake - served by the building
administrators, teachers and the cafeteria staff - every family
receives a book of their choice. This year, the families were
also treated to a special reading of "The Princess and the Pizza" by
American Reader's Theater member Greg Giblin and a surprise
visit by the "princess."
The dinner
is truly a community event. From the invitation
illustration designed by student Shayna French to the donations
of books by the teaching staff and food by Time for a Change
Realty, O’Dells, and Shop Rite - the event is made possible each
year by the support of the HBE school community.
