Read Across American Day
A
celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday and the joy of reading
Ten years ago, the National
Education Association started a reading revolution by creating a
day to celebrate reading. Over the past decade, Read Across
America Day has grown to a nationwide celebration - involving
teachers, community members and parents in events that motivate
children to read.

This year's celebration fell on
Dr. Seuss's birthday - Friday, March 2. Hamilton Bicentennial
Elementary School students celebrated Read Across America Day by reading
Dr. Seuss' books, inviting community members and local
dignitaries to read to classes, and participating in a variety
of literature based activities.
In addition to the guest readers, The Cat in the Hat made a
special visit to HBE - where most of the students and teachers
were wearing his trademark red and white top hat. During his
visit, the Cat was able to join some of the classes for a
festive lunch of "green eggs and ham" in the school cafeteria.
