Spangenburg-Rollman Softball Field
Dedication ceremony held May 15
POSTED
MAY 19, 2010
A special ceremony was held May 15 to
dedicate the new Port Jervis High School Varsity Softball Field.
The field was officially named the Spangenberg-Rollman Softball
Field in honor of former Raider coaches Hugh Spangenberg and
George Rollman.
Hugh
Spangenberg, PJHS Class of 1959, served as Port's first varsity
softball coach from 1974 to 1981. Under his direction, the
Raiders won five conference titles, two Orange County League
titles and one Section 9 title. He finished his career with an
amazing record of 128-31.
George
Rollman took the helm from Hugh, coaching the team until 1988.
He later returned as head coach from 1992-1996. Rollman's teams
won four conference titles, two Orange County League titles,
three Section 9 titles, and the top title for 1984 - the Eastern
State Championship. At the time, there was no state tournament.
The following year, he led the Raiders to win the first New York
State Championship. Rollman finished his outstanding coaching
career with a 191-59 mark.
Both coaches are retired social study teachers who reside in the
Port Jervis School District.
