Fall
Sports Physicals - Sept. 4 |
Interested in playing a sport?
Sports physicals
are required.
The district
physician will be at the Middle School Health Office on
Thursday, Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. to provide free physicals for all
students trying out for modified sports. Students who do not
have a physical will be considered ineligible for sports until they
are cleared by the nursing staff. Athletes
need to bring the required sports forms, signed by their
parents, with them to the physical.
The
new sports forms
can be downloaded below or obtained in advance from the Middle School or High School
Health Offices. For more information, call Sharon Close at
858-3161.
Please note: Physicals can be performed by your
family physician or the district physician. If you are
interested in playing a fall sport, but missed the scheduled
dates for JV and varsity sports physicals, please have your
family physician complete the required sports form.

Athlete's Guide to MRSA Infections |
In recent weeks,
media reports have focused on staph infections caused by MRSA
(Staphylococcus aureus) - a bacteria that is resistant to many
antibiotics. Cases of MRSA staph infection have been
reported in school districts in upstate New York, Long Island,
and most recently Orange County. Most of the cases of skin
infections caused by the Community Associated MRSA have involved
student athletes (although some non-athletes have been affected
as well). While NO cases of MRSA reported in the Port Jervis
School District or in the surrounding area, district
officials are taking a proactive approach to ensure the health
of students and staff.
