The Leadership Academy is a four-week enrichment program that actively engages students in adventure-based experiences, team building exercises, and learning activities designed to enhance leadership skills.

Hands-on activities may include:
 • Outdoor Education Survival Strategies Project Adventure/Challenge Courses
 • Cooperative Games/Team Building Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens
 • Canoeing/Kayaking Delaware River Hiking Orienteering/GPS

“We were very excited to be able to offer the Port Jervis Outdoor Leadership Academy at no charge again this summer thanks to the Orange County Youth Bureau," said Middle School Assistant Principal Brett Cancredi, noting that enrollment was expanded this year to include incoming seventh graders. He said, "This provided those students with an amazing transitional opportunity in preparation for their entrance into the middle school in September."

New community partnerships also allowed the Academy to enhance its activities.
In addition to the YMCA, the National Park Service and Heart of the Hudson Girl Scouts were involved the Academy this summer. "Their involvement had a huge impact on our outdoor learning experiences and the scope of what we were be able to offer our students," said Cancredi.

Students who are interested in the program are encouraged to register early since space is limited to the first 50 applicants.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  June 30

Space is limited to the first 50 Port Jervis students, entering grades 7-9,
who register. Completed registration forms must be returned to the Port Jervis Middle School Main Office by June 30.
