Guidance
Welcome to the Guidance Department
In the Middle School
Guidance Department, our goal is to help each student achieve
success academically, socially, and personally. From academic
awards programs and parent/student orientations, to initiatives
that help eliminate bullying in our school, we strive to work
closely with parents, teachers, administrators and the community
to achieve this goal.

Supplemental
Educational Services |
Port Jervis Middle School offers
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) for students who have
been identified as being in danger of not achieving the state
learning standards for their grade level. SES provides students
with the supplemental academic enrichment needed to increase
their achievement on the state assessments, and to help them
meet state learning standards. The New York State Education
Department has approved Orange-Ulster BOCES as our primary
provider. OU-BOCES contracts with our middle school teachers to
provide instruction in math and ELA for our students after
school, Monday-Thursday, 2:15-3:15 pm. Parents are notified
the first few weeks of school if their son/daughter is eligible
for this after-school program.
The State has also approved a list of private Supplemental
Educational Services (SES) providers.

Comprehensive
Guidance Plan |
The district's comprehensive school
counseling program integrates academic, career, and
personal/social development. Counseling, consultation,
collaboration, coordination, case management, guidance
curriculum, and program evaluation are the primary delivery
methods in an effective school counseling program. The purpose
of a counseling program in a school setting is to promote and
enhance the learning process.
