Mrs. Raap publishes novel - HBE is setting for story
Photo of bookcover, The Adventures of Carly SageCarly Sage has crossed the threshold into sixth grade at Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary School. But you won’t find the 11-year-old on any class roster. She’s the inspirational character in the coming-of-age novel written by Port Jervis elementary teacher Kara Raap.

The Adventures of Carly Sage is the story of a small town girl, who learns much about herself and her classmates as she struggles through the ups and downs of adolescence and overcomes a difficult situation. Raap says she wanted to give her students a story that was inspirational, taught valuable lessons, and resonated with their own lives. MORE

The holiday spirit was absolutely contagious this year!

Students learn to Begin with the End in Mind
Photo of three students working on puzzle.First graders in Kim Malzahn's class discovered the true meaning behind Habit #2: Beginning with the end in mind. With the help of their student teacher, Mrs. Convery, students tried to put a puzzle together upside down, without even looking at the box! Once they discovered how difficult this task was, they were allowed to turn over their puzzle pieces and look at the box for assistance. Mrs. Malzahn and Mrs. Convery explained how important it is to have a plan when you take on any task. The second approach was much easier because the students knew what to look for. They were truly beginning with the end in mind.
