CHARACTER EDUCATION PROGRAM
Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary
School is proud of its Character Education Program.
The program consists of four
pillars: Respect,
Caring,
Responsibility, and
Citizenship.
Each quarter, our students and staff will focus on one of the
four pillars. Classroom teachers are designing activities,
based on a weekly character quote, to reinforce the positive
behavior associated with each of the character pillars. Positive
behavior is further reinforced by our guidance counselor who
visits every class to provide valuable life skills lessons on
topics such as manners, bullying, and conflict resolution. At
the end of each quarter, the school will hold a special assembly
to celebrate the completion of the pillar and to honor one
student identified by each classroom teacher for best modeling
the character traits in his/her daily activities.
Celebrating Integrity
HBE held
the first of four Character Education awards assembly in
December to recognize students for exemplifying the character
trait of Integrity. Each week, a quote was read over the loud
speaker and the students were challenged to be someone who acts
with integrity at all times. Teachers were watching closely, and
each classroom teacher chose the student that they felt
exemplified integrity. The students received a certificate, a
letter for their parents, and a copy of the paragraph written by
the teacher that explained why the child was chosen. The
Character Education program is led by HBE's counselor Mrs. Dawn
Jones.
