Pennies a Page Read-a-thon 2008
Read! Read! Read! Have
fun raising money for scholarship fund
We are very
excited at Hamilton Bicentennial to hold our seventh annual
Pennies a Page Read-a-Thon. The Read-a-thon will be held from
Friday, April 11 to Monday, April 28.
The money your child collects will go toward the Betty Morgan
Scholarship Fund. Two Port Jervis High School graduates, a boy
and a girl, who attended HBE, will be awarded the scholarships.
One day,
your child may be the lucky high schooler who receives a
scholarship from the HBE Pennies a Page Read-a-Thon!
A
gift certificate will be awarded to one student from every grade
who raises the most money. The class with the most participants
will receive a pizza party.
Together, let’s enjoy good books and make this year’s Pennies a
Page Read-a-Thon a huge success!
Here’s the students should do:
Set a reading goal. Decide with your teacher or parent
how many books you think you would like to try to read during
the read-a-thon. Write that number on the line provided on your
Reading Log.
Ask your neighbors, friends, and family members to sponsor
you. The more sponsors you have, the more money you will
contribute to the Betty Morgan Scholarship Fund. Record each
pledge on the Sponsor Form. Small pledges are appreciated as
much as large. Remember this program is called the Pennies a
Page Read-a-Thon. Sponsors can pledge a penny per page or per
book read.
Read! Read! Read! Keep track of how many pages and books
you read on the Reading Log.
Collect the pledged donations from your sponsors after the
read-a-thon is over. Tell you sponsors that cash and checks
are acceptable. If they prefer to write a check, be sure that it
is made payable to the Betty Morgan Scholarship Fund.
Return the money you collected, your completed Reading Log,
and your Sponsor Form in an envelope with your name and
teacher’s name on it to Mrs. Franck in room 20 (reading room) no
later than Monday, May 5.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your
teacher or Mrs. Franck. We are looking forward to announcing
this year’s winners!
