For the past year,
school staff and students have been working diligently to
refurbish the school courtyard, the 9-11 Memorial Garden, and
other exterior landscaping. Little-by-little, they’ve brightened
the courtyard by adding flowering plants, picnic tables, wind
chimes, bird feeders, and a bird house.
Those involved in the improvement project are proud of the
beautiful exterior space they’ve created, but feel much still
has to be done. They are now looking to further enhance the
courtyard and then begin working on the grounds surrounding the
building entrance. “We are going to make maximum use of
Wal-Mart’s generosity by using the grant money to make a lasting
impact on our school,” said Assistant High School Principal
Andrew Marotta.
The Community Grant Program is the largest program funded by the
Wal-Mart Foundation. More than 80,000 grants, totaling $61
million, were awarded through the Community Grant Program last
year.
