»ASK Summer Reading List
Summer is a great time for a good book

During the summer, books might be the last thing on your child's mind. Most kids are ready for a break and happy to trade in reading, writing, and math for summer camp, family vacations and lazy beach days. But many studies have shown that children who read when they're away from school perform better academically than those who don't. If you're looking for a book that will spark your child's interest in reading this summer, check out the ASK Summer Reading List.

»Purchase of student-designed t-shirts will support Heifer International
ASK students helping to reduce world hunger

The ASK Elementary School Art Department is selling a unique collection of custom-designed t-shirts this summer to raise money for Heifer International, a non-profit organization working to reduce world hunger. Before school let out, ASK students participated in an Earth Day theme art competition. Contest winners received a t-shirt, screened with their original artwork as a special prize. Copies of shirts can be purchased throughout the summer.

Orders now being taken: The shirts are on display at Upfront Exhibition Space (31 Jersey Avenue) through Sept. 2. After school opens, they will be displayed at Port Java. There are two order dates - Orders placed before Aug. 28 will be delivered Sept. 12.

Learn more about Heifer International: Instead of providing hungry families with a non- renewable source of food, Heifer provides a “living loan” of an animal. The family’s health and standard of living is greatly improved by what that animal can provide - might it be milk from a cow or goat, eggs from poultry, meat, and draft power from a water buffalo or wool from a llama. For more information, visit www.heifer.org.
